Today, on the wings of the old monastery are installed the Navy Museum, which is essential to know a bit of Portuguese maritime history, and the Museum of Archaeology.
The monastery church, the Church of Santa Maria de Belém, is a magnificent church with three naves supported by elegant pillars that are articulated with a pointed roof, beautiful and unique. The luminosity, with sun rays pass through the windows, is extraordinary, creating an almost unreal. Basque tombs of da Gama and the epic poet Luís de Camões are there. The visitor feels simply overwhelmed by the beauty and grandeur associated with the history, faith, but also the knowledge and determination that moved Portuguese culture.
